”Berrak outruns the defender and slots it into bottom corner, Boca lead 1-0 and its the goal they’ve been craving all game!” was the Martin Tyler line as the goal went in. After 3 games without a win and this game drifting along without a goal, the Boca crowd were slowly becoming overwhelmed by the crushing realisation that we were tiny, insignificant specks in a vast and uncaring universe. Sighs of depression and anguish were clear to see and hear with Boca’s winless run looking like continuing, buuuuutttt thats only until our newest signing Hamza took the game into his own hands, he latched onto a through ball, raced clear and coolly slotted home what turned out to be the winning goal on a chilly Monday evening.
Berllaque was able to recall Phil in goal with Sam, Eliy, Bear, Nyall at the back, Sene and Sean were the holding players with Bosh, Rick, Kow ahead of them and (the man with the coolest hair in Division 2) Sirrr up top. The game started off a scrappy affair with Leo looking the slightly better team. Free kicks were being given all over the pitch but the ref seemed reluctant to dish out any cards in the early stages. Boca’s first slight chance came from a free kick, Rick beautifully crossed in but it evaded everyone and flew harmlessly wide of the goal. The challenges kept flying in but Boca had gained the momentum in the game now with Rick and Sean being our stand out best players.
Bear was having a few lapses in concentration which culminated in a miscued clearance which el Capi cleared up for him, and he then gave away a controversial free kick outside the box, which a lot of the fans thought was in the box. The free kick was tamely hit at Phil (it was a shot similar to when you press circle on FIFA and it floats on target but makes for an easy save). Rick then followed his previous free kick with another beauty which was closer to some players but nobody managed to gamble enough and it again flew across the face of the goal.
Boca were dominating and soon enough, we were having chances to score, Sene chested it into Bosh’s path who tried a cheeky Wayne Rooney chip only for it to drift wide. Bosh then also had another chance where he twisted and turned his way into the box and was setting up for a strike but the ball went slightly away from him and Trevaa had a rushed shot with his weaker foot. The half time whistle came and it was Boca who had looked the better team but it was a stalemate so far.
The 2nd half kicked off and we started off on the front foot straight away, Trevaaa brilliantly intercepted a pass straight from their kick off and it led to a free kick which Nyall took but came to nothing. Hamza was busy warming up behind the goal and Boca faithful didnt have to wait long to see him on the pitch. The call came and it was Trevaaa who was being replaced, he came off to a warm applause for his efforts and it was the 2nd debut in 2 weeks for Boca.
Shortly after, Eliy went down with an injury which Sols (our 2nd physio) went to inspect, Eliy ended up diagnosing himself and managed to continue. Sene was letting his temper get the better of him yet again but escaped punishment while Hamza was causing havoc in the defence and should have had a penalty after being tripped in the box, a poor decision from the ref, and the fans werent happy either. Paul then came on to replace Kow who also had a solid game, the pace was now freely available due to fresh legs coming on. Paul and Hamza then combined to push forward but a good tackle denied Hamza taking a shot at goal after beating a defender. Rick then played another good ball into Hamza’s path who tried to chip the keeper as the ball bounced, sadly it flew wide yet again.
Frustrations were continuing to grow in the stands till Vatvani put in a crunching tackle which made the Leo player miscontrol and Bosh poked it to Sean who surged forward and played a through ball to Hamza, despite being a few yards behind the defender, he outran him and slotted into the corner for his first ever goal for Boca. The celebrations and relief were felt all around the Victoria Stadium as even Pippo ran the length of the pitch to join in the celebrations.
The times of joy were not ending there Boca, another debut was about to be made as Sene signalled he couldnt go on anymore. Ati Montes sporting his very own Marouane Fellaini look came on for his first ever Boca appearance. The action in the game was still not over though, Paul was on the ground and with Leo refusing to kick it out, Bear took matters into his own hands, he’ll claim he was trying to make a tackle, I think he was trying to recreate this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWIUp19bBoA Whatever he tried, he somewhat succeeded as Jaime Pratts had to be taken off because of the injury he sustained (we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery).
The resulting free kick rebounded off the wall and fell to Hamza who was running at their last man, Ati was busting a gut to join him and got the ball played to him wide on the right, he then crossed into Hamza who calmly put it into the net, but sadly for the Boca fans, the offside flag had gone up as the Berrak was just offside. As the game neared its conclusion, Sean then got himself into the book for repeat offences, this didn’t dampen his day tho, he was one of the best players on the park. Our Mr Versatile Stefan Bosh himself then slotted into his 3rd position of the evening as he moved to centre mid with Ati on the right.
Boca were not holding on or struggling to see the game out but the full time whistle was greeted with cheers and sighs of relief. Our slump was over and we were finally back to winning ways. The beaming smiles on the players and fans faces made me stand taller, talk more confidently, be better at DIY and be an absolute alpha male when the ladies are around. As the fans exited the stadium, the happiness made the sunshine seem brighter (at 8pm), our lives again were full of purpose and our wives smiles were even more beautiful (maybe I made the last one up). But you get my gist, we won! A massive result for us!!
Man of the match sponsored by Twix, was a close fought thing but Rick (51%) just shaded it from Sean (49%), they both had very good games along with the rest of the team who all contributed to a good win. We look forward to Saturday, kick off 8pm for another Boca performance.
Rumours were circulating in the papers on Tuesday morning that while sat in Champs, our current fan of the year has committed to putting 200 quid behind the bar at Champs for a Boca party if the lads can manage to win any 1 of 3 trophies they fight for. We caught up with the man himself who confirmed this was true who stated ”It’s a way to show and express my love for Boca, and if they can win a trophy, the happiness of that will eclipse my monetary loss.” Challenge laid down lads, its now up to you!
