Ham of the Za Match!

A tough few weeks of fixtures culminated in another difficult game against the Magpies for our Boca boys. In a wet, windy and miserable evening, The Victoria Stadium was the venue for what turned out to be Boca’s biggest win this season. A 5-0 drubbing over the newly formed Magpies was just what Boca needed ahead of an 11 day break from games. Our hamz-trick hero Hamza scored 3 well-taken goals who along with Paul and Eliy completed the rout of the hapless Magpies. They also had their keeper sent off which compounded their misery on a poor night for them (much to delight of the Boca fans in attendance).

With restricted access to the stadium for fans, proving to be a popular talking point, the game kicked off and Phil, Sam, Eliy, Crofo, Nyall, Kow, Bosh, Bear, Paul, Rick, Hamza were the 11 men trusted with giving Boca a good start to this December game. Magpies started brighter in the game and won the game’s 2 first corners with neither amounting to too much. With Boca slowly gaining a foothold in the game, a defence splitting pass found its way to Hamza who tucked it past the keeper with absolute ease, 16 minutes in and Boca led 1-0, the perfect reaction after the Mons defeat.

Hamza GoalDespite going a goal down, the Toon stuck to their tasks well and with some average defending helping them, they had their first shot which Pippo did well to save. Boca reacted to this pressure by going up the other end and Bosh, Paul and Hamza all did well for Paul to have an effort fly wide of the goal. Hamza then tried his chances at scoring and thundered a shot against the bar, he was also denied by their keeper who made a good save as Hamz eased his way through the defence once again.

While our attacking was sometimes magical, our defending was quite the opposite at times, they had too much room to play but luckily for us, they were rubbish. One of their rare highlights came when they powered down their right wing to get a cross in, only for a world class save from Pippo to deny their mouthy striker.

Pippo Save

We were living dangerously but in our attackers, we had by far the better team. We continued to control the game and our defending was even improving as the minutes ticked over, November’s player of the month el Crofo was having another great game and made a good interception to break up a Magpie attack. Bear was beginning to get more and more into the game and nutmegged a poor lad and passed it off to Sam ‘Tony Valencia’ on the right who drilled a superb ball into the box, Paul gave Hamza the call to leave it, which he duly did and Paul controlled it well, ran past a defender and slotted it home to give Boca their 2nd goal.

The half-time whistle came and went and Boca were unchanged in formation and their style of play, they carried on from where they had left off and Hamza won a corner almost immediately after the restart. It led to a spell of pressure from us and Rick eventually threaded an inch perfect ball to Hamza just inside the area and he tucked it away from Boca’s third and to put the result beyond all doubt. Boca were all over the Magpies likes flies around a piece of poo, and before long, the flies had their 4th goal of the evening. Hamza yet again skinned a defender with some magic and weaved his way around the box to complete his hat-trick. Frustrations for the Toon continued and this was displayed in the horrendous challenge by their keeper. He found himself by the touchline and with Paul on the ball, the keeps flung himself kung-fu style and chopped Paul in half. The referee had no hesitation in sending him off and Magpies were all done. Their mouthy striker volunteered to go in goal as he feared for his safety once he saw Nali warming up.

With a 4-0 lead, the gaffer had started to think of changes to the line-up to let more of the squad revel in the taste of victory. Bill came on, much to the fan’s delight to replace Paul, and Nali’s introduction to the game closely followed as he replaced Nyall at left back. Bosh, Kow were both having cracking games and Boca were dominating possession against the 10 men Toon. Trevaaaaaaaa then came on for the man of the moment, Hamza received a standing ovation from the fans for his efforts. He has settled into the Boca way of life perfectly, and leads the goal-scoring charts with 5 goals. Boca then won a corner with their fresh legs working hard for it and Rick took it, the cross came in and the skipper met it in the air to head home to make it 5!! The shout from the fans was much like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV-XT8ldSxI (32 seconds in) Both Bill and Kow should have made more of the chances they had to score but some good defending and over-confidence cost them the opportunities.

The final whistle swiftly followed Bill’s chance and Boca were celebrating their biggest win this season, a superb performance and goals made it a day to remember. Hamza stole the show but the team as a whole worked fantastically towards this 5-0 demolition. Man of the Match went to the obvious choice in Hamza, who stole the show and got himself a superb hat-trick and took home the match ball. After the game, the fans and players dedicated this win to Boca’s newest fan, our congratulations go out to Mr and Mrs Cracks. A special mention also has to go to my neighbour Katy who, I am reliably informed, helped Mrs Gaffer bake the mouth-watering treats in the past few weeks, apologies for not giving you the credit you deserve earlier, but better late than never I guess! I cant wait for treat day on our next game!
